Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive method of examining the abdomen and pelvis and is particularly good for examining the gallbladder and for assessing groin or abdominal wall hernias.

An ultrasound probe is pressed onto the skin and glides smoothly over the relevant part of the abdomen using a special type of jelly  to provide a good contact between probe and skin.

Occasionally, a special type of probe can be used to examine the muscles surrounding the anus, particularly in patients with an abnormality related to the bottom or for those suffering with anal pain or incontinence.
