Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are inflammatory conditions of the bowel which cause a range of symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal pain and inflammation or infection around the anus (abscesses and fistula). Patients with these disorders vary greatly in their needs for imaging which will depend on their age, extent of disease and its severity. London Radiology is very experienced in caring for patients with IBD with our strong background and links to both St. Mark's Hospital in Harrow and UCLH (leading Hospitals in the care of patients with IBD). We understand that scans can be more challenging for our clients with IBD and we will endeavour to make sure your experience is as positive as it can be.

We offer a range of scans using MRI, ultrasound and CT to best diagnose IBD (CT enterography and MRI enterography). Following diagnosis, we are frequently asked to reassess extent and severity of disease as IBD will characteristically fluctuate over time and in response to treatment (or other physical and emotional triggers). CT enterography is commonly used to help establish a diagnosis of IBD in adults, whereas MRI is utilized for regular assessment of IBD as it avoids repeated exposure to Xrays.
