X-ray / Fluoroscopy

A transit study helps to determine whether patients with constipation have delayed gut transit. It involves the team working with London Radiology taking a single abdominal X-ray five days after swallowing a small capsule (the size of a small pill) over three successive days.

The capsules contain tiny shapes made of an inert material which shows up on X-rays and allow the Radiologist to determine whether the speed of transit through the bowel is normal. We also undertake a wide variety of contrast swallow and meal studies to assess swallow and upper gastrointestinal anatomy and function
